When something traumatic happens in your life, visual images, sounds, feelings and thoughts can get locked into your memory. The appearance of these disturbing memories can prevent you from living fully in the present.
Serious accidents, assaults, natural disasters, life threatening situations and illnesses, childhood sexual or physical abuse, rape, incest and severe neglect are some of the events with the potential to create intense emotional disruptions. Unprocessed trauma can be triggered by even a minor event bringing these memories rushing back into our lives.
Unresolved trauma may result in chronic anxiety, depression, substance abuse, irritability, panic attacks, poor job performance, sleeplessness, chronic anger and difficulties in relating to others.
I most often work with an integrative and powerful treatment technique known as EMDR. This methodology is generally very effective to clear emotional, cognitive and physical blockages. EMDR works best when clients are motivated to change. Importantly, it is successful for a broad spectrum of clients.
EMDR allows traumatic memories to recede into the past and removes the highly emotional impact of the original trauma often seen in (PTSD) post traumatic stress disorder or with (PTS) post traumatic stress symptomology.
